SBA Office of Advocacy – Regional Regulatory Roundtable – Boston, MA

Date: November 21, 2017
Category: Events, Regulation

Description
Please join the Office of Advocacy for a roundtable discussion of federal regulatory issues impacting your small business. Advocacy is also inviting Massachusetts Congressional offices and key federal agencies to hear your concerns about federal regulations and other issues you may be facing with your small business.
President Trump has made regulatory reform a center piece of his agenda and recently signed two executive orders addressing the regulatory burden faced by the private sector. As the independent voice for small business within the federal government, The Office of Advocacy has a unique and important role to aid agency implementation of the new executive orders. To assist in accomplishing the goals of the executive orders, we have developed a Regulatory Reform Action Plan.
As part of this plan, we are hosting Regional Regulatory Reform Roundtables across the country in an effort to hear from small businesses first-hand about what federal regulations most concern and/or impact them. In order for this Regulatory Reform effort to be successful, we need small business participation. This will be an opportunity for small business leaders to educate Advocacy and federal agencies through first-hand accounts of how federal regulations impact their small business. The information gathered at these roundtables will be utilized to inform agencies, Congress and the public on what specific regulations can be modified or removed to help small businesses.
Registration for this event is free, however please fill out the registration form below so that we will be prepared to discuss various regulatory issues. If you are unable to attend but would still like to provide us with federal regulatory small business concerns, please fill out the form.

The agenda will be created based upon registrations. All small businesses are welcome to attend for as little or as long as their schedule will permit. Small Businesses do not need to attend all day, Advocacy staff and Federal Agency staff will be in attendance to hear your comments and concerns.

NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER HOSTS ANNUAL SUPPLIER APPRECIATION NIGHT

Date: April 8, 2017
Category: Chapter News, Events, Member News, NASF Chapters

More than thirty years ago the New England Chapter of the then National Association of Metal Finishers (NAMF) conceived a plan to recognize the efforts and support of the Metal Finisher Supplier community by setting aside a special evening in their monthly meeting schedule as Supplier Appreciation Night.

At that time NAMF membership was strictly limited to Metal Finishing job shop owners and managers. Suppliers were not allowed membership, so this was indeed an extraordinary chapter event.

Many things have changed over the years. As the metal finishing community became smaller the need for strength in numbers became more apparent and Suppliers are now a significant part of the membership makeup of the New England Chapter, presently operating as a recognized chapter of the National Association for Surface Finishing (NENASF).

While many things changed, the founding principle of this event has remained constant throughout the years, the desire to recognize the support of Metal Finishers Suppliers to the success of the operation of Metal Finishing Job and Captive shops. To this end what started as a social dinner event with a neutral/ non-technical speaker, and then evolved with the addition of a mini trade show, has remained a main stay premier event on the New England Chapter calendar.

This year’s Supplier Appreciation Night was held on April 6th at the Holiday Inn in Marlborough, Massachusetts. It encompassed all of the founding principles of the original Suppliers Nights with speakers, supplier table top exhibits, door prizes, scholarship raffle prizes and the presentation of ten scholarships to college age children of employees of member companies presented by Chapter President Robert Messore. The attendants were also given an update by our National Board Member, Chris Capalbo, on national happenings, the benefits of NASF membership and the launching of our new website, nenasf.org, shortly before the first of the year. An extra added attraction this year was an address by a very special guest, Frank Altmayer, NASF Educational Director, who gave attendants an update on all the educational opportunities available through the NASF.

All one hundred plus attendees commented on the well orchestrated evening this event has been over the years and are already looking forward to next year’s Supplier Appreciation Night.

NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER CONDUCTS SUCCESSFUL MID-WINTER SEMINAR

Date: February 21, 2017
Category: Chapter News, Events, Member News, NASF Chapters, Regulation

Members of the NASF New England Chapter were given the opportunity to learn the latest wastewater treatment technologies while fulfilling mandatory triennial Dot Hazmat and annual RCRA hazardous waste handling training at a four hour seminar offered for this training from 1:00 to 5:00 pm on February 9, 2017 at the Holiday Inn in Marlborough, Massachusetts.

David Joyce, wastewater treatment expert from Hubbard-Hall, gave the attendees a look at some emerging technologies when he addressed possible future uses for little known Zeolites and Chitosans as an aid in resolving some difficult wastewater treatment problems.

Jeff Mosholder of New Path LLC was the moderator and primary instructor of the seminar. He, along with Travis Porter and Max Forsythe from ENPRO Environmental, educated attendees on the many complex rules and regulations in place when handling hazardous materials and properly offering hazardous wastes for removal from a metal finishing facility.

A test was administered after the training session and certificates of completion were distributed to all who successfully completed the course and passed the test.

Educational opportunities as seen in this seminar are just one of the many benefits of membership in a local organization like NENASF with strong national ties through the NASF.
